Blackjack Payouts
Blackjack is arguably the most popular casino card game in the world. And through the years, the game has spawned exciting variations.
The payouts for receiving a Blackjack hand can vary from game to game and casino to casino. Although a payout of 3:2 is quite the norm, it is not always the case.
For example, in a Blackjack variant called Face Up 21, a Blackjack hand payouts even money (1:1). But if you are dealt a Blackjack, you will always win even if the Dealer has a Blackjack too. In other Blackjack variations, if the dealer is dealt a hand equal to yours, including Blackjack, it is a push. Your bet is merely returned to you.
Double Exposure Blackjack is another variant that payouts a winning Blackjack player at even money. The difference is that the game is played with both the dealer's and player's cards dealt face up. This gives you the advantage of knowing the cards that the dealer is holding.
On the other hand, there is a Blackjack game called Gold Series Super Fun 21 which gives you more than 3:2 payout for a Blackjack. In this variation, a Blackjack hand pays even money, but if it is in the suit of Diamonds, the payout is 2:1!
Blackjack Switch is another variation that payouts even money. However, the house edge of the game is a mere 0.17% (when played with one deck). The payout may seem low, but the house edge (or the casino's average profit from your bet) is also low.
There are casinos that offer single deck Blackjack games. (Sounds good right?) But watch out, the payout for a Blackjack hand is only 6:5.
A 6:5 Blackjack has an adverse effect on your winnings and bankroll. If you are playing such a game from a single deck shoe, chances are you are going to bust out 8 times more quickly than you would by playing a normal 3:2 Blackjack game!
Again Blackjack payouts vary from game to game and casino to casino. They keys are:
Check the rules first. Don't get too excited when you see that green felt and that neatly dressed dealer. See which Blackjack variation offers the highest payout and uses the lowest number of decks.
Check the fine print. Determine if you get a win instead of a push if you and the dealer both get a Blackjack. Also check if the Dealer "stands on soft 17". This decreases the house edge by about 0.2%.
